Family Photography
Family photography is a great
way to provide memories of family gatherings, special occasions or
extraordinary moments that will be looked back upon with fond memories.
Choice of camera can play an important role in achieving optimum
results, however a more expensive camera does not always mean better
results. Knowing the options that the camera provides can help turn an
okay photo into a spectacular one. Many cameras have settings that can
provide a better atmosphere for shooting photos. Rely on artistic
backgrounds to add ambience to the photos but make the background
simple so to not distract from the subjects.
Be non-obtrusive during family
functions. Don’t put the fun on hold to achieve the perfect
photo. Include all family members in photos, including the
photographer, to make it a complete family photograph.
Candid photos provide variety to the
memories. Not forcing the subjects to pose or stand for the photo can
help to provide a natural setting. Taking many photos gives the
opportunity to attain more than one shot of a similar subject and get
at least one quality shot. This will also increase your skill and
abilities to become a better photographer. Using a digital camera
provides the option of taking a plethora of photos without wasting
film. Enhancement and corrections can also be done with the use of a
digital camera so the photographer can take candid shots and touch them
up later.

Taking family photography shots can provide all
family members with a copy of the photos and a CD of digital photos to
make their own copies of their favorite pictures. This will help to
preserve all the festive fun.
Get close to subjects by filling the frame in the
viewfinder on the camera. This creates greater impact in the pictures.
One trick in family photography is to capture the essence of the family
member. To experience the true genuine facial reactions, take the
photos when the subject is not focusing on the camera. This seems to
help provide a more natural and comfortable end result. People tend to
stiffen up when faced by a camera. Photographs tend to be more
enjoyable when the subjects are undisturbed and enjoying the activity
naturally. The best results are achieved when a least distractible
background is used. Using a wide aperture, a low f-stop will give more
of a closer-up portrait style photo and offer a satisfying result of
the subject.
Using the environmental aspects of the family
member’s everyday life can help tell a story of that
person’s life and make appealing photos. When the subject is
in their own natural habitat, doing their favorite hobby or activity it
will help capture their life. This will provide future generations a
snapshot of the family history and traditionally enjoyed activities.
